logoThe second chakra  is located about two fingers width above the mooladhara chakra in the spine just behind the genital organs. It produces and controls powerful emotions such as anger, fear, jealousy, lust and insecurity. It is therefore associated with blind and uncontrolled  reactions. It control sexual reproduction and desire and is associated with pleasure-seeking through the sexual organs and the tongue. In Swadisthana the emphasis is on enjoyment – on pleasurable sensations associated with food, drink and sexual interaction. When Swadisthana become active it may manifest as overwhelming desires or cravings. On the physical level it is associated with the organs of excretion and reproduction. Visualisation of this chakra can help fix disorders of these functions.

The key issues surrounding this chakra are addictions, relationships, violence, basic emotional needs and pleasure.

This chakra is symbolised by a crimson lotus with six petals, in the centre of which is a white crescent moon.

Swadisthana chakra is the seat of the individual and collective unconscious. It is the centre of humankind’s most primitive and deep-rooted instincts. The animal nature is transcended by purifying this centre.

This chakra contains our energy for work and is the seat of creative energy. It forms the prana body which is our protective energy field that expands when we are happy and shrinks when we are upset. This chakra increases the sense of ” I AM’ which is not found in plants but in animals and is responsible for the attachment to self and to one’s offspring – giving rise to a need to protect and to possessiveness.

Visualising this chakra helps purify the chakra and our relationship to our emotions, creativity, addictions or urinary, skin. sexual and reproductive difficulties.

This chakra develops in the years from 7 to 14 of a human being.
